My View on Canadian Health Care

Warning: This post is long, political and totally NSR. Skip it if you want.

One of my American readers asked for my opinion on the Canadian health care system given our experience with Avery. I am so incited by this topic that rather than respond to her e-mail alone, I am posting it here (and you can flame me if you like...I have been reading up on this topic for more than ten years and I am good to go!).

A Quick and Dirty One

My card is quick...my girl is dirty! (She remains stained even after her shower!)

P.S. All elements save the embellies are from my Jolly by Golly crafting kit by Cosmo Cricket.

Positive note of the day: Ugh. This is a hard one only because I feel I am going to be swallowed up by housework. Let's just say I will be exceedingly positive if I get it under control before bed. (I guess my positive note could be the PBS series "The National Parks". Scenery and history? How can you go wrong?)

A Day Late and Tales of Ave

Well, as promised yesterday, I am finally getting my act together and posting my Katie Caroler preview for the Little Paper Shop. I had made a couple cards, botched the coloring job I did and then ended up spilling tea on one that was close to being presentable. With that, I threw my hands up and ended up making a new one in the middle of the night on Sunday (AKA Monday morning).

Make sure to have a peek at the rest of the LPS gals do their magic with Katie Caroler!

Finally, you have two chances to win a Katie Caroler set of your own! One, go visit the Little Paper Shop blog and leave a comment and/or two, participate in the sketch challenge this week for another chance to win.

Avery News:

Today was a day. I had to take Ave to the doctor to review her blood work from her last hospital visit. It turned out that she had a high lymphocyte count which, in most cases, turns out to be an indication of mono. However, since she had no symptoms of such, and my doctor was duly concerned, I had to take Ave back to the hospital on the fly for another lab visit so they could re-test her blood (the lab at the Children's is so good with dealing with babies that we made the long trek). That also meant picking up C from preschool, dropping her off with Grandpa and then hiking it across town...so much for nap time! Cross your fingers for us that it comes back normal!

In other notes, way back in March, I took Ave to the hospital emergency because she had a cold. (Since she was only about eight weeks post-op, the protocol was that she had to go to the hospital should she develop a cold/flu.) At the time, I was told she did not have RSV. Today as we reviewed Avery's history, the paperwork stated that she did indeed have RSV back then. I was a little perturbed by this but thankful because, given her situation, it would have probably meant a one to two week course in the hospital under an oxygen tent. And heaven forbid if there were further complications...

This mothering bit wears me out! Once these kids are grown, I am going to just coast on my laurels till death...I will have earned it by that point...ha!

LPS Monday and a Whoops

Here is the LPS Monday challenge for today...another sketch (love 'em)! However, I was also supposed to preview a new Katie stamp too (my whoops!)...that will have to wait till tomorrow's post I am afraid since I kept screwing it up (and work duties call to me instead)!

This one features one of the free LPS digis...too cute! And yes, I left out the sentiment layer but I did include all these fun buttons! (P.S. Rocking the Mellow DP from BG...this stuff never gets old!)

This week, Julia will be adding another free digi (the reindeer on the left) over at the LPS forum. Come be a member and then download the freebies, k? And if you make something, leave me a comment so I can come see too!

Positive note of the day: Cleaned out my utensil drawers. How do these get so nasty? Loving my clean drawers (yep, it's the simple things)...

Happy Blogaversary to Moi...

It's been three years today since I started this blog...whoa! I want to thank everyone for their visits, feedback and all-around good vibes!

I said I would pick one follower today to get a prezzie...this kills me since I wish I had 317 (not to mention all those Google Reader and Feedblitz subscribers [mwah!])! This person can pick the online store of their choice and spend 50 bucks on me! (I would pick either the Greeting Farm or PTI right now if I won!) And that person is...anticipation building...Chris! Just drop me a line, k?

Twitter Challenge

Last night I was twittering back and forth with some of my PSFs. Sue told everyone she had a new medallion stamp to break in (want! dang SU!). I told her she should do a one-layer card with it. She then challenged everyone else to do the same with a time limit of fifteen minutes...I think I was the only one who complied! This is what I ended up with:

I then pulled a boner move and wrecked the backs of these two with some errant black ink so they got changed into this...

P.S. This is what Sue made as a one-layer in fifteen minutes.

ETA: I was wrong...Dreena did a one-layer too!

Positive note of the day: Just missed coming down with a migraine last night (it even hurt to sleep!). I love it when I wake up and feel like a thousand bucks because the headache has left me!

Housekeeping

  1. Cleaned up the Challenges List and added a few more freebies to the Digi-stamps Freebies List.
  2. In addition, I am curious as to what are your fav sketch blogs...I added a poll in my sidebar where I threw in the ones that I am most familiar with. However, since there is about a bajillion out there, please let me/us know of any worthy recommendations you may have as a comment here! I am sure we could all use a kick in the mojo especially as Christmas nears! Thanks!

P.S. I have a number of blinkies that link up these sketch blogs near the bottom of my blog just in case you want to check 'em out!

Benefits of Cleavage

Or in my case, as long as I don't drop anything in them! (I guess there is always a snack for later!) (Image Link)

Well Hello Avery...

Years ago, I took a singing class just for fun. Little did I know when I signed up that it was all show tunes! Now however, they have a nice little place in my repertoire of songs I sing to my kids. One of them, "Hello Dolly", gets adapted to each kid as they come along. While Charlotte appreciates most music types, Avery has a special place in her heart for show tunes (her fav is Doris Day's "Red, Red Robin"). Just looking at this pic, makes me want to burst out in "Well, hello Avery. Yes, hello Avery. It's so nice to have you back where you belong!".

Positive note of the day: Don't you love play dates where the mom shows up and she's cool too?

New House Card

I made this card for my in-laws who take possession of their new home tomorrow. I elected to try the FTL60 from the clean and simple blog (sketch image is clickable!). In addition, I took the lazy route and found this cool clipart (found here in .eps format) to pair with rust CS and Ambrosia DP from Basic Grey (love this stuff).
Positive note of the day: Another nice day in Calgary. Raked leaves...seems like a fruitless effort though since they just keep raining down!

SC247 Pure Innocence in the Driven Snow

Today's SC in Basic Grey's Eskimo Kisses!

Positive note of the day: Super hot today (a new record for Calgary at 34C). Took the kids to the park (they rolled down a giant hill...ah, to be a kid again!) and then out for dinner...nice!

My Ila Card

Sketch Challenge - Oct 12, 2009Yesterday was a day I ran back and forth from Ave's crib to various points around the house where I started many chores but finished very few (esp. since Ave was not willing to sleep much!). I thought that maybe I would try to color an image or two in the kitchen while I held the fort. So, in my optimistic fashion, I started on this Magnolia (an IRAK). I just colored her with no real plan in mind...and yesterday, all I finished was her hair and her shoes...ha!

Anyhoo, I visited Ila's Magnolia blog today and saw that she posted a sketch challenge. I thought "Why not?". Of course, my style and Ila's are very different so this was a challenge for me (I even pulled out primas!). I kept adding stuff until I thought I was done. It may be a long time before I go this route again. Some people have a knack with layers, embellies and esp. these Magnolias but I am not one of those people! But, it was fun, and that's all that matters right?

Positive note of the day: Ave had a wicked nap this afternoon (with some cajoling). And Charlotte was dressed like this...too funny!
