SC287 - Gorjuss in Bittersweet

Just made a quick card tonight while the kids were doing their best to not go to sleep. Ave has to go to physical therapy at 7:50 this morning (which means we will have to be out the door at least an hour before that)...since she went to bed after nine, this could be ugly!

Positive note of the day: Ave thinks she is just a little grown-up lately. She tries to set the alarm, fill up the laundry hamper and make dinner at her kitchen.

NSR - Word of the Half-Year?

At the beginning of the year, Ali Edwards chose her word of the year and many of us played along. At that time, I chose FOCUS. I have pretty much fallen off the wagon on that one (my office space could tell you that right away!) BUT in its place, I instead have been working on the word PAUSE.

Now I am not one to self-congratulate but I have done really well in making this not only a notion but a lifestyle change. Particularly since my teens (given my rather challenging relationship with my parents), I swore I would never swallow my anger as I felt I had been forced to do. Instead, I was convinced that I would share my immediate response no matter what the situation. In many ways, this served me well since I competed hard and achieved much at work and in school (particularly since I was in male-dominated environments). However, in my personal life, it was a real hindrance.

You see, your initial reaction isn't always the right one. And, even if it is, maybe you don't always have to share it. And so, when something ticks me off, irks me, gets in my craw (you get the point), rather than reacting, I PAUSE. If I feel it is still bugging me later (or I realize that it really wasn't that important to get upset about), I will confront the issue, deliberately and rationally.

Lately, I have a few people in my life who never PAUSE. They always share their thoughts (solicited or not), critique, observe, etc. and it is driving me crazy. It seems to be particularly a male thing (and no Brad, I am not bitching about you). Be it at work or in my day-to-day interactions, it is all I can do to avoid rolling my eyes and not saying "STFU!". So while I may be doing my best to PAUSE, reacting to those non-PAUSED is becoming my new challenge!

All Purple-y...

I will dedicate this to Pam and her love of purple!

This is pretty different for me in both design (layout from Sketch Saturday) and color choice but I quite like it. I am doing my best to break out of my ol' habits so wish me luck!

Positive note of the day: Gorgeous day out. Took the kids to the lake after dinner...fun!

LPS Monday - My Sketch!

I created this sketch some time ago (when I get bored with my job, I will create a sketch for future use. Yep, I'm weird that way). Of course, now using this sketch, I felt quite challenged. The actual creation didn't take that long but picking out the right image sure did! However, since my intention was for this sketch to play as CAS, I kept resolute and used some new Pink Paislee DP, with my LPS' {Moments} and {In Loving Memory} sets to make a sympathy card. It's not fitting with my typical style but I think that these types of cards shouldn't go too overboard. If you wanna try out the sketch yourself, head on over to the LPS blog, k? (I am real curious to see how others take this one on!)

Positive note of the day: Just a nice Sunday. Putzing around, kids playing outside, some creating and cleaning...just easy (makes me think of 70s soft rock)...

An Accordion Book for Grandpa

I am kinda getting lazy getting my posts done on time. Oh well...sometimes a girl just needs to crash at 9:30 in the evening and forget everything else!

Here's an accordion book I made for my FIL with the rest of my Sublime papers from Basic Grey (it took three years, but I finally used them up!).

Positive note of the day: Went to Ikea yesterday. Was able to trap the two older WJs in the play area as we hung out with Ave and got some shelves (cheapie ones) for all the kids' toys and a new shoe cubbie (I detest all the clutter on the floor!). This has made my back entrance area a thousand times neater and pleased me to bits (yes, I am easily pleased).

One More Teacher's Card!

I paired it up (sorta) with this week's Club Anya sketch, a Greeting Farm gal with a LPS sentiment, some Basic Grey Sugar Rush DP and then some assorted embellies.

I glossy accented the apple and added some stickles to the star (it dried much nicer than is shown here!).

Positive note of the day: Volunteered at school for the last day (Sports Day). My boy's class was in yellow...here he is with one of his best friends in class cooling down after running around all morning!

Inspiration and a Tut I Have to Try!

Rose Ann had this great card (1) which led me to Denise's version (2) which made me meander over to Barbara's creation (3) where she wrote up a tut on how to create that knot! My dad builds and sails boats so I need to do this!

EONAC23 - Alter It!

I set the challenge for this week (for once! ha!). For this one, I decided that Sue and I should alter something. I don't do this near often enough and it is such a fab way to personalize packaging or reuse something around your house for fun storage. This tin used to hold my Nina Ricci perfume (which I ♥ so!) and I covered it in some pretty paper as a tin for Charlotte to hold her allowance she hopes to earn this summer.

Here are some altered ideas to inspire!

Altered Clipboard
Altered Game Pieces

Altered Lunch Tin
Altered Notepad
Altered Paint Cans
Altered Picture Frame

If you would like to join us, please let us know you played by adding your link below!

Positive note of the day: Went out for dinner last night...yay! Sat out on a patio for the first time this year and had a martini to boot (I could have downed several of these but I was good!). And if you hadn't seen my Ave's hair cut that she got earlier this week, here she is...cuteness!

RAKs

Okay, my bad...these have been sitting on my mess of a desk forevah! I am posting some lovelies that the girls received from my PSFs:

For Avery, from Jan:

For Charlotte, from Julie:

Thanks so much! Charlotte especially loves these girlies (she's standing here as I post these!)...

Phoebe DP Resurfaces

Oh my, this is some crazy Phoebe DP. It seems there ain't a lot to pair it up with (at least for me) so I tried it on with this retro GF gal and the SC286 sketch...

Positive note of the day: Getting my hair colored tonight. I am in desperate need here since I had a white hair popping right out of my scalp at the centre of my bangs this weekend (when trying to get somewhat beautified for C's ballet recital!). There was just no avoiding that one (although I did pull it out...I don't honor those things!).

Perhaps Card Box

Made a pizza box (tut) to gather up all those Perhaps cards I created:

Here's a review of the cards I created:Positive note of the day: Generally okay day. No nanny again. I seriously need to start looking at things more in a "glass-half full" kinda way. I wish I didn't get amped up about the constant mess and "Mommy"'s that come my way (which is why I like to hide in my craft cave)...gotta keep thinking about the totality of my life rather than the sticky floor, the deadlines at work and the fact that the children break down my bathroom door every time I have to go!

This is a Hmm... Card

I am not sure about this one. I like the idea but I am not sure about the actual outcome.

In addition, I am sharing this QP of Tristan just because it amuses me so...

Positive note of the day: No nanny today. Took Ave to get her hair cut in the hopes she would keep her hands out of it (you can always tell what her last meal was!). I'll post a pic once I get the one from my in-laws (fresh from the cut before she inevitably got mashed potatoes all in it!).
