Positive note of the day: Look at my ham Ave! She is getting more of a personality every day as she chats more, walks more and, much to the delight of the WJs, screams more!Thursday, September 30, 2010
SC300 - Afraid of Sponging!
While this week's SCS SC was relatively easy, I decided to challenge myself by working with my sponges. I love this look but find it very intimidating! (I even sponged the felt snowflakes and the LA!)

"A Week of Thanks" Card
My pal MD and Susan (aka LateBlossom) had a great idea to focus on a week of thanks (and thanks giving) on their respective blogs. I love the idea of sending out thank-you cards to show appreciation for those in your life. Working with that theme and the CAS sketch this week, I whipped together this one pretty quick with my new Pyrus paper (do you even have to ask who makes this DP? Bwah ha ha!). I think it's purdy and perfect for autumn...now to actually get it in the post!
Positive note of the day: Had a nice visit with Brad's cousin and her BF last night.

RAK Time!
Teri sent me a mountain of supplies for scrap pages (it seems she wasn't using them anymore!) along with this super-cute creation! Thanks so much Teri...your generosity always wows me!
Toilet Paper Roll Gift Card Holder
As Christmases come and go, I am giving more gift cards as presents. I wanted to start making some more fun holders for them so I tried a gift card holder from a toilet paper roll. I dressed this one up in Basic Grey's Eskimo Kisses and a Cat's Pajamas stamp. And who wouldn't want a Michael's gift card?
P.S. Here's some tuts on re-using those toilet paper rolls like I did!
Positive note of the day: Got back on the scale today for the first time in a month. Still seven pounds down but I have renewed my pledge after dealing with vacation, back-to-school, a sick Ave and a week without the nanny!

LPS Monday - Color Challenge
Today's LPS challenge is so autumnal with colors of brown, yellow and orange. So what did I make? A spring card (at least I think it looks springy!). I hadn't used {Garden Gate} for some time so I pulled it out and included some Basic Grey Origins and Sugar Rush (seriously, I cannot think of when I haven't used Basic Grey lately!).Should you want to play along with the challenge this week, hit up the LPS blog (remember, there is always a prize given to a random participant!).
Positive note of the day: Don't you love it when all the TV shows are back for a new season?

Papertrey September Blog Hop Challenge
I got Nichole's e-mail about the Papertrey Ink blog hop in the wee hours of the morning. Since I finally made a kahuna order this summer, I wanted to make sure I played along. When three monsters kept jumping on my head this morning in bed, I spirited myself away and started this card (and not without a bunch of interruptions!).The challenge was to include a technique/style inspired by a fellow stamper. In my case, three stampers came to mind as I went about culling items from my stash.
My three main inspirations were as follows:
- Whenever I think CAS, I think Natasha. The clean&simple blog is one of my faves for sketches!
- Whenever I think kraft, I think Pine. That girl reaches for kraft the way the rest of us reach for white and I envy that simple way to mix it up.
- Add to that this pretty faux letterpress technique from Laurie, and I think this is one inspired card (and pretty close to my typical style too!). (Note: I simply rubbed my CB embossing folder with white pigment ink and ran it through for this wintry background.)
Anyway, thanks for popping in. And since this is a double post day, please check in on my scrap page of C's graduation below! Cheers!

Green Door Grad
Finishing up showing my scrap pages of recent past...after this, I got nothing (no time to create this past week since with no nanny, I had to work at night!). Anyhoo, I wanted to use this Pink Paislee paper to play off the black, green and yellow tones of C's grad picture. (As as aside, I was joking with Brad and my in-laws about the big deal they make about preschool grad. I said she will probably go to high school graduation and complain about what a letdown it was compared to her preschool grad [it's just nuts they way they go overboard with all the time and costs with this stuff. Yes, it's totally cute and the pictures are sweet but it does all add up quickly!])
It's alright but it didn't turn out as well as my Ambrosia layout (which I didn't think about near as much)! Oh well, it will do (pig)*.
*This is a Babe reference. I use if often when I sort of resign myself to things that are adequate but not as great as I would like.
Positive note of the day: Narrowly avoided a migraine tonight since I went to bed when Brad got home. I love waking up and not having my brain rattling around against my skull any longer!

Stay Out!
This page is probably equally about both Tristan and I. Quite a few moms have commented on how Tristan takes off the minute he gets close to the school yard. He yells "Bye mom" and scoots off to his side of the building (his class goes in on the opposite side from Charlotte). Little do they know that even before this year, I was not permitted to go past the edge of the school grounds when I was dropping him off. I never minded his need to be on his own but some parents have "tut-tutted" when I didn't stick around like they did. My kid didn't want me there so I wasn't about to crowd him...sigh, sometimes I think parenting would be a lot easier without the input of other parents.Anyway, seeing the back of him running away from me is what I remember most about these drop-offs. So having the nanny take him to school means I ain't missing a darn thing!
Positive note of the day: Spent most of the day with my girl Ave. I have no nanny at all this week so I have been reconnecting the way only full-time mothering can!

SC299 - All in Lemonade!
I was up late last night working till I took an hour off to watch Glee and create a card. Posting this on Wednesday night and then heading back to the slog.
Positive note of the day: Ave had speech therapy today and said "ball" and "meow" on prompts. C had her vaccinations. As an after-needle treat, she got some red hair extensions which she loves. I will snag a pic soon and share my punk princess with ya! (Oh yeah, and C was 95th percentile for height and weight [but only a BMI of 18...jealous!].)

Another Scrap Page
I did these latest creations last week when I had some time to squeak stuff in. I have had no nanny these past two days and then for Wednesday, I have occupational, speech and physiotherapy with Ave for most of the day and have to hit up the public health clinic with Charlotte to get her 4 1/2 year vaccinations. Ugh. I am gonna have to work tonight and catch up later in the week (I have no nanny Friday either and the kids only have a half-day too!).
Anyway, I made another page with Basic Grey's Oliver. I really like this paper pad esp. since it seems to fit best with the colors we wear often as a family (think autumnal all year long! BTW, this picture was taken in July when it was particularly cool...notice the turtleneck and long sleeves? Sometimes, I really hate this climate.). This is a pic of T when he was only about three months old and we still looked young and fresh (instead of old and haggard!).

Cupcake Gal
This scrap page could easily be titled "Evolution of a WJ". Doesn't she look all sweet and innocent at her first birthday and then an absolute nut on her second? And no, we have yet to make it through a meal without C ending up with food somewhere on her face! I tried my best to follow the Design Dollies sketch but, as always, I strayed!
Positive note of the day: Had a nice nap tonight...being pre-menstrual makes me tired and cranky so sleep makes me tolerable!

LPS Monday - Sketch Challenge
Our LPS Monday challenge is a sketch (by me even!). I used one of our digis, Jena Rain. I mixed it with Basic Grey's Kioshi. That is one of Basic Grey's paper lines I have so much trouble with (Two Scoops is another)...I guess I just find it hard to use a softer palette generally. Maybe I will have to sit down and go through the SCS gallery to see how everybody else chose to play with it! Anyhoo, should you want to play along with the challenge this week, hit up the LPS blog (remember, there is always a prize given to a random participant!).
Positive note of the day: Paula, Ryan and the cousins came over for a long play and dinner. Done wore my kids out!

Here's What I am Wondering About...
Why do my kids have to wrestle at 7:30 in the morning, chatter at me and Brad incessantly and generally cause a wrath of destruction wherever they go? On the other hand, why do they act like angels at school so all their teachers look at me quizzically when I ask about their behaviour? I am having one of those days of dealing with the WJs when I just wish they didn't live up to their moniker with every cell in their bodies.
Note: WJs stands for "wild jackals"...a synonym for Tristan and Charlotte.

Mojo Monday Card
I made this one at the beginning of the week and then forgot about it....
Positive note of the day: Brad straightened out the garage...that kinda thing makes me happy. I got my hair done today. It took three hours and cost a small fortune, but it is worth not having three inch roots. Plus, for one day, I get to have straight hair since she blows it all out...too much work for me!

Ambrosia Charlotte
Oh my, how I love this page. I was monkeying around making accordion flowers as a sideline diversion from working. Once I had them done, I wanted to make a layout with them, this bling and all this orange! I just swoon at how it turned out!
Positive note of the day: Had a yummy dinner tonight of Columbian/Mexican which is an absolute miracle in this town!

I know this one is making the rounds...
...but Ave is mesmerized by it so I am gonna post it here for her own amusement.
Oh, and some candy from Anita (a fellow Calgary gal-pal!).

Sympathy with Infuse
I wasn't sure about using Infuse for a sympathy card but I think I was able to pull it off with a focus on the brown and cream tones. The sentiment is from Papertrey Ink and the layout is CAS106 (of course it is!).BTW, here's a beef about what I have noticed on the sketch blogs. In some cases, hundreds of people attempt a sketch but only a scant 10% (at best) comment on the post. I think it is good form to thank the sketch artist and comment on the DT creations (lord knows, many of them have given me inspiration!). As one who has run challenges from time to time, I can guarantee you these folks put a lot of work into what they do (merely coming up with a sketch can hurt the brain [esp. when the sketch blog has been live for some time]), so as a PSA from me, share the love people. OK, I will stop beaking now.
Positive note of the day: Well, turns out I am still working at all hours since even more got heaped on the pile. I have been working super late but I am still functional (which is very nice). Today is Thursday so the kids are gonna have a sleepover at G and G's and, as Tristan would say, "That owns!".
