Another Amber Inks Creation

Using both my ideas for digital masking (tut) and digital paper piecing (tut), I made this Christmas-y creation with Basic Grey Jovial papers and a Basic Grey/Sizzix embossing folder (addicted, much?).

Amber Ink Product: 'Tis The Season To Be Pretty

Positive note of the day: Tristan's walking around the house saying the phrase "Virtual politics". What does that mean?

Heart This!

Was out with the Cal-gals on Friday night. Lots of chatting and nibbling ensued. I was watching my pal Merlie crafting...she was messing with embossing powder, filigree stamps, sponges and distress ink. Intrigued by the image she had put together, I decided to mimic her every move. Now, like with her punch enabling, I have an itch to go buy a whole bunch of distress ink (which if you would offer your fav color[s] up, I would love you for that!). Oh Merlie...why do you taunt me so?

P.S. I really love this Pyrus DP from Basic Grey...yum!
P.P.S. Added Vintage Ink to those wooden buttons...awesome.

Positive note of the day: Love that we got all that demolition done yesterday! My arm hurts from smashing all that concrete and brick (not to mention hauling it out) and I don't want to even recall how much time we spent vacuuming! Today we are going out to look at millwork...here's hoping the WJs don't kvetch too much (since they would prefer to stay in their PJs all day!

Weekend Sketches

Hey everyone! Brad and I decided to finally tear down our old brick fireplace today. We have't even decided what we are putting in its place (!) but we got the demolition done! Needless to say, I didn't even remember the sketches until I sat down now!

Here are the kids tearing down the brick. OMG...this ended up creating such a mess! Brad and I just finished cleaning up the fine layer of dust all.over.this.house. The WJs were pretty good helpers and were just so excited to see the changes going on!

SFYTT in Euphoria

In my continuing quest to make up some cards that are relatively simple (ignore all the layers on this one) as teacher's gifts, I paired up some Basic Grey Euphoria (I have a lot of this paper left over since this color mix isn't my "go to") with the SFYTT February sketch. I embossed the BG with my Basic Grey/Sizzix Snowflowers folder and added that Bazzill chip sticker for the focal. (I actually stitched on one of my layers too but you can't even tell with this busy pattern!)

Positive note of the day: Took the kids out for dinner tonight. Ave decided she was done early so I walked around in circles with her. The other two ate their dinner and did not kill each other while I was pacing the restaurant so I call that a win. That and we were out by 6 PM.

February PTI Blog Hop

Even though I should be doing other more productive things, I had to play along with the February Blog Hop for PTI. Love this challenge of scallops...how could I not play given my punch collection?

I used my MS Cornice punch on this bracket style card...a little more unconventional than the standard scallop but I like it. I used some old anniversary stamps from PTI and papers from Pink Paislee. I then used my SU 1" punch and my SU scallop circle punch. Finished it off with a rosette created with leftover strips of DP and my SU edge punch. There...lots of scallops...♥ that! Thanks for looking!

Playing in Paradise Challenge Four

Today is Carla's turn for directing our challenge at the Scrapbooker's Paradise blog. She wanted us to CASE her creation (shown in that little image to the left). I ain't gonna lie; this was hard for me. I guess scrappy (AKA die-cut/cricut cards) are just not my thing. (In fact, I am going to try to make more cards like this just to get out of my comfort zone!) If you are inspired by Carla's card, come play along with us, k? I'll hop along next week and comment on your creations (should my dang job or kids not get in the way...hee hee!).

Here are the rest of the team's sites for more creative inspiration!

Positive note of the day: Charlotte and I have been working out together using the Just Dance 2 game (from the Just Sweat feature). She thinks we are just having fun but I know better. It's a good way for us to do stuff together but still get in a workout!

Pink Cat Studio Guest DT

I have always loved Melissa's Pink Cat Studio images and I was tickled when she asked me to be a guest DT for this month's release. And what fun!...the images are all gnomes. Both C and I spent a great deal of time coloring these (and offering each other suggestions on the best colors for these cuties!).

I created a scene with my Cosmo Cricket Nutmeg, some trees cut with my Silhouette, a sun cut with my nesties and a ol' Basic Grey chipboard piece that has been sitting in my stash forever (I painted it with acrylic paint and then added some glossy accents to finish it off). My gnome was colored with Copics, I glossed up that super fun hat and then popped him off the page (as Charlotte told me...now he looks 3D!).

To see all the fun creations made by the Pink Cat Studio DT, head on over to the blog!

Positive note of the day: Ave went to sleep without me tonight. Took about twenty minutes of crying...sigh! Here's hoping she doesn't cry out every hour (her habit if I am not in bed with her).

Working it Old School...

A couple of weekends ago I was feely antsy. The kids were buzzing around and constantly beaking at me (for food) or at each other (for dominance). I brought a bunch of my craft stuff upstairs and played around making flowers just to find some serenity for a few moments. Went old school with this SU DP and made a dahlia fold flower. Mixed it up with lots more of this DP (I had a whole pack so there are lots of scraps kicking around) and an old SU stamp too. If it wasn't for that May Arts ribbon, we might have an SUO card and wouldn't that be a miracle?

Positive note of the day: Glad to get back on a schedule today. I even made beef stew (which took a lot longer than I thought it would for a crock pot concoction)...here's hoping it tastes good (since I made it from memory!).

First Highlighted Amber Inks Creation

Today I am going to show off my first Amber Inks creation. I wasn't sure about where I was going to go with this (since it was going to be a masculine creation that would have a subdued palette but still play off those hearts!). I really like how it came about though.

Using Soft Suede CS (with one panel that included the digi wood grain BG), I used Pyrus paper (from Basic Grey) and the Mojo Monday sketch put up yesterday. I used up some twine and eyelets (since these seem just the thing for masculine cards) and punched my edges with my MS scallop three dot punch (I cannot wait till Friday when we have Cal-gals and Merlie enables me with all her punch purchases since I saw her last!).

Positive note of the day: Been having to go to bed with Ave each night so she does not have a meltdown (she has been getting so upset that she yacks...gross). So bad to be enabling her but she gets to sleep quickly and I have been getting an extra nap each day. I would rather get things done but at least I'm well rested!

InStyle Stamps Focus - A Layout

As part of my InStyle Stamps DT commitment, one of the digi-stamps I received was one called Butterfly Journal. I used it as an element on this layout of Brad and I from my University graduation. OMG...when I came across this photo (stuffed randomly in a box), I could not believe how slim, youthful and sexy we looked...ha! It seems like an age gone by (although it was only twelve years ago). Both he and I were wearing purple so I chose that palette to pick my elements.
  1. Using some 6 x 6 papers from my Basic Grey Eva pad, I culled various pieces to make a 6.75" square so I could use my Cherish punch around the page set (heart this punch!).
  2. I added some grosgrain ribbon, my matted photo and some stacked primas (gotta use them somewhere, right?).
  3. In Photoshop, I opened the element and then picked this shade of purple and colored all the parts of the digi element using my paint bucket.
  4. I then added a text box to the centre of the image and then scaled it to 65%.
  5. Once it was printed, I cut it out with my nesties and matted it with more Eva DP.
  6. Using my Sizzix die, I cut out two sets of flourishes and then dressed up the title.
  7. Finally, I pierced the plain corners to dress them up and compliment the rest of the layout.

Positive note of the day: These kids wear me out! They are running around like screaming banshees as I write this (I am trying to tune them out for a second). Flames won the game tonight, we had chili in front of the TV and that eight o'clock bedtime will soon be here. Then all will be well in the world.

Amber Inks Passing the Torch!

I couldn't believe it when Amber Inks contacted me about carrying the torch for the month of February! I mean it is such a brill idea in the first place (having a guest design team each month to get the word out about their fun images) and it is two times terrific since it is based on a referral from another stamper. And the gal who referred me was none other than Sue (who has such fun creative ideas and colors those intricate House Mouse images like no other!).

To meet Pam and Amber (who are wicked fun), visit the Amber Inks blog. To get a taste of the creations, whip around the torchbearers from January and just wait till us February gals show off our stuff in the coming month. And BTW, I will have to pass the torch too so I am keeping my eye open (hint, hint!).

It's Sunday So It's Scrappy Time

I never seem to make it to my craft room on the weekends. Between "Let's Dance 2" with C, Ave's persistence that I carry her around and T, well...being T, there isn't any Mommy time (except last night I did watch "The Switch" with Jason Bateman and Jennifer Aniston...cute!). So, as my cop-out, I share some saved calendar pages.

Positive note of the day: It's Heritage Classic today (Montreal vs Calgary) which is a NHL game played outdoors. It is -25 out there so those boys will be chilly! At least their benches will be heated!
