Positive note of the day: Had a job interview this morning with an engineering firm. Can't really make out how it went (I have all the technical acumen but they want more proposal writing experience) so we shall see if I get a call-back after the weekend.Thursday, March 31, 2011
Sorta CASE
Here was my MO for making this card. I had colored the image using the Lime Rickey DP from Basic Grey as inspiration. Then, wouldn't you know it, the SCS newsletter hit my Inbox showing the Bargello technique using Lime Rickey paper! Well that sealed it...I would have to try it out. I even ended up using some of the same embellishments so this is pretty darn near a CASE (even if that's not how it started!). Certainly not an image or paper I always pick up but I thought it would be a fun birthday card for one of T's friends.

Another Busy Day
So today has been another run around and get nothing done day. Charlotte is still feverish and tired, Ave has an eye infection (Brad too!) and Tristan is full of P & V. Auntie Paula was nice enough to let T have a playdate with his cousins (all three boys can play and burn off some of that useless energy!). I was supposed to have a phone interview with an engineering firm but that was postponed until tomorrow morning.
Anyway, here is a card for today (but that's almost beside the point, right?). As my friend Andrea says, she likes to skim past all the preamble and just read the positive note of the day and see the fun thing from the web. The rest is just errata. Ha!
BTW, image is an IRAK and the papers were given to me at a recent crop so I know nothing about them (save those Studio Calico wood veneer buttons-aren't they dreamy?).
Positive note of the day: Got a pair of shoes yesterday that were marked down from $99 to $20. I wanted a dark brown pair of heels that had some panache. Do you know how hard it is to find dark brown shoes at the beginning of spring? Everything was in this blush shade, in some cases they were shiny patent, many of them were platform and most of them had four to five inch heels. Do they know who they were selling to? I would kill myself in those things. And I certainly could not stand in them for eight hour stretches!

Couldn't even remember a title!
Today has been busy! I met with a recruiter today who gave me some feedback about my skill set, the Calgary market and what I should expect (esp. as a contractor if that's what came about). It was very productive but stressful. You see, I tend to overshare (here's where you act shocked...ha ha!). Anyway, whenever there's a lull in the conversation, I blather away. It's not a horrible thing but I wish I was more precise with my language (i.e., say it, end sentence, wait for response). I guess that is what I am having to re-learn now. And it's a good experience for me but some days I want to curl up in my PJs and turn my brain off!
P.S. When am I gonna find to craft with all this life going on?
P.P.S. This image is an IRAK...know nothing about it!
Positive note of the day: Went shopping with the boy so we could set up his seedlings for this summer's gardening. He is great to hang around but his constant need for entertainment is draining!

CP Sketch 108
Pre-posting on a Sunday. Kids are putzing around, Brad is making some sorta speaker creation to add to his plethora of audio equipment (he seems similarly ensconsed in a hobby now so that's good) and I am going here and there. Coloring an image, reading a book to Ave, cleaning something up and then rotating from one to the other. Decided to use this week's Card Patterns sketch with this pretty paper from Basic Grey's Eva (I am using up all my DP before I buy any more [well except for the new BG lines...shh!]).And yes, it's that flower image from the that Copic class again. It's from the Stamp Barn and I may just have to buy it!
Positive note of the day: Re-org'd all the kids crafts today. I like getting stupid jobs like that done.Fun Thing I Found on the Web:

Reject Sunday
I have seen lots of posts out there lately about cards that were rejected for publication and are hence, making their blog debut. Mine is a mere reject from the jingle belles challenge I recently set the sketch for. Since it is Sunday, and the two older WJs are antagonizing each other, I share with you my reject...ha!
ETA: Adding this one to this week's the holly & the ivy challenge for the jingle belles!
Positive note of the day: Went out with my girlies last night...always good.

Engagement Layout
I made this layout some time ago of the engagement photos of Brad and I. I wasn't quite sure about it but I just decided to call it finished and move on. My favorite picture is the one where Brad's eyes are closed! We ended up using the one on the far left for our announcement. Sigh...that seems like forever ago. It will be nice when we aren't keeping up with kids all the time and can do stuff together (and by ourselves) again!
Positive note of the day: Avery is so cute with this talking app she has on my iPhone. It is called Talking Gina the Giraffe. She chatters away and Gina copies her. She giggles when Gina eats, gives kisses or gets poked. I love to watch her while she plays.

March PTI Blog Hop
Played along with this month's PTI hop while I searched for jobs, suits (okay, that was fun) and got nerved up about my phone interview at 2:30. Gosh, I talk too much. The whole point of being a technical writer is to be concise and I am anything but when it comes to my mouth! (I knew someone who could come to meetings for months and never say a word. Then he would say one sentence and fully encapsulate the core of an issue. I wish I was like that.) Anyway, back to the card...The challenge was to include embroidery floss so I sewed some around the edges of my layered circle. It's a little blingier than usual but I was playing off all the glitter from the DP. Have a good rest of your Friday. I am off to down some more tea!
Playing in Paradise #8
***Dangnabit! I hate it when the schedule feature does not work in Blogger!***Today's Playing in Paradise challenge is an inspiration one. Using this photo, I decided to pull out the idea of the vines (i.e., flourish/script) and the flowers. This is quite the picture and the DT samples made me swoon! Come play, k?
Here are the rest of the team's sites for more creative inspiration!

Another Cameo with Mojo Monday
Tried on this week's Mojo Monday with another Cameo dingbat. Matched it with Basic Grey's Ambrosia (srsly, why am I not getting free product for all the advertising I do for this company? Bwah ha ha!). I added a rosette for the circular element and even some doodling down the sides (which I never do!). If you look closely at the mat, I clipped the corners and threw in some orange bling...it's a nice touch IRL even if it doesn't pop here on the blog. Ciao for now!
Positive note of the day: Tristan is better now. His nose is raw from blowing it, his lips are cracked from not drinking enough and he lost at least a pound or two this week. So he will stay home today again and start his Spring break now! I will volunteer in C's class this morning (after a phone interview at 7 AM this morning)...fun! Ha!Fun Thing I Found on the Web:

More with the flowers...
Tried out another card with the same flowers from a couple days back but this time in pink! Mixed the element with Basic Grey's Lemonade (almost all done this pad!).
Positive note of the day: Had a whirlwind of a morning. Got C to school. T stayed home for the third day in a row since he still has his fever. Took him to the walk-in clinic last night to get him checked out. It's just a virus so he just has to weather it till it subsides. He is not eating or drinking so I have to harp on him incessantly so he doesn't get dehydrated. He tells me he thinks it is over so I hope he is right!
Avery had her annual checkup at the cardiologist. She has some scar tissue around her incision marks (internally) and a soft murmur but this is not news. She is doing quite well and we will find out more when we go to the neurologist next month. Despite all that good news, what a piece of work she was at the appointment! I had to wrestle her to get the ECG, echocardiogram and the evaluations by the resident and doctor. I am exhausted...she is strong and I had to keep both her legs and arms pinned since even a stethoscope was too much in her estimation. I think I need an alcoholic beverage this afternoon...ha!

Cameo Dahling...
Inspired by Taylor's use of Basic Grey's Curio and Tracy's sketch, this came together in a snap and I love it! I think I like it so much since it is not something that I would normally come to make as my default and I like stretching my comfort zone.
Products Used:
- Basic Grey Curio DP.
- Distress Ink Antique Linen.
- Cherish MS edge punch. SU corner punch.
- Nesties.
- Bling and lace from the dollar store.
Positive note of the day: Skipper the cat went for a walk this weekend and got himself lost. Fortunately a lady in our neighbourhood took him in and then brought him to a local vet. The vet scanned his chip and he was home within twenty minutes. Charlotte was so happy (she had been quite distraught yesterday as we looked for him and taped posters on our street poles) and Avery kept saying "kitty" over and over again when he came home. I fear he is a wanderer (he howls all night! and paces by the front door). So not wanting to go through this on a regular basis!Monday, March 21, 2011
My Last Official Amber Ink DT Design
Today's the last day of my Amber Ink guest DT stint...but not the last day I will use these fun and cute images! I love these sweet bunnies...they are perfect for Easter or even a cutesy or lovey-dovey card. I made this one with the very last of my Blush DP from Basic Grey (which came out in the fall of 2006...jeebus, do I hold on to scraps or what?!?).
Positive note of the day: Tristan's fever was between 103 and 104 today. It finally seems to have broke and he ain't near as lethargic as earlier. Glad it wasn't one that hung on for days on end.
