PPC35 - For Real, This Time!

Before I begin, let me tell you that this original post was super fine. There were pretty links embedded, a nice distribution of white space and a fun "fun thing". Since that post evaporated into the blog nether regions, I am stuck posting at work (with the oldest version of IE ever) and there is no time nor functionality to replicate the effort...sigh!

For today's Playing in Paradise challenge, Merlie asked us to distress our project using one of the various methods at our disposal. Since this ain't my usual style, I was worried. But after I thought it through, it actually came together pretty quickly.
9:30 - For now, I have to go to a meeting. I will come back in a bit and add more! Ha!

Positive note of the day: Took the nutbars out to Swiss Chalet last night on my own. Ave sat in a booster chair for the first time and was really well behaved and ate up lots. Once they all finished, it was the typical gong show, but what can you do? (And that is why I tip very well...ha!)

Blog Candy Winner

Last night I went to the hockey game (Flames v. the Islanders...a real snooze-fest). Anyway, now that I finally made it back here, I can announce my blog candy winner...it's Janet B! Drop me a line and I will set you up with a gift certificate to the online store of your choice! Cheers!

And thanks to everyone who dropped in to wish me well on five years. This blog is a way to motivate me to create and remember all the little moments that make up life!

Easiest Card Evah...

To make this card:
  1. Grab a piece of Curio paper from Basic Grey.
  2. Slap it on a 5.5" x 5.5" cardstock base.
  3. Add some pearls.
  4. Add some organza ribbon.
  5. Go have a cup of tea and catch up on Drop Dead Diva...

Positive note of the day: Had baklava today...drool!

Blogaversary Week

As a blatant attempt at grubbing for contact with my readers, I am holding an open contest (meaning I ain't asking for you to perform a back flip or anything) to celebrate my fifth year of blogging. Up for grabs is a $50 gift card to the store of your choice. I will draw for it on September 27th...the date it all began! I am way down in my blogosphere activity due to my job and WJ schedule so I thank you for your continued support!

Another Scrap Page...

Brad didn't want me to post this one since he doesn't like his hair. I think it is perfect for '96 hair...gosh, he looks like a baby!

DP Used: Basic Grey Oxford

Positive note of the day: Got quite a lot of actual writing done today which was a pleasant surprise. Ate too many BBQ chips while doing it...boo!

Oxford CAS Masculine Card

Had some scraps left over after some layouts with Basic Grey's Oxford so I made a quick, masculine CAS card.

Positive note of the day: Cleaned up, played with the kids and got ready for the week...you know, Sunday stuff.

Mall Santa and the WJs

This is the obligatory "take your kid to the mall Santa and watch them scream" photo. Ave wouldn't even consider going near Santa last year...maybe this year?

DP Used: Making Memories Noel

Positive note of the day: Took the kids to the lake since it was +30. That is an unbelievable day in September here in Calgary since we almost always have snow by Halloween!

Playing in Paradise Challenge #34 - Inspired by Books

Our DT member Tracy (also a Cal-gal) is quite the bibliophile. Actually, all the Cal-gals are...I am the only one who rarely, if ever, picks up a book (too many other addictions, I'm afraid). For today's Playing in Paradise challenge, Tracy asked us to pick a quote from a book which would inspire a creation. This one really got me thinking...and then I was burning to make lots more with all the book quotes I thought up!

For my book, I chose Anne of Green Gables. I was pretty influenced by the reckless redhead from PEI. And, like her, I always (and still!) find myself in jams. If I didn't think about this quote from time to time, I do think I would get more chagrined about life. But, you have to persist in thinking that "Tomorrow is always fresh, with no mistakes in it". In fact, it was watching the series again and hearing Ms. Avery quote it back to Anne that made me think that "Avery" would be a good name for a baby when I was pregnant with her. And I guess it was!

Positive note of the day: Our software solution for IT was finally released today...yay! I wrote for fourteen hours yesterday just to get it all done. I seriously have been working time and a half for over six weeks now...I am going to relax this weekend!

Let's Start Christmas, Shall We?

Since I am super rusty on the card front, I took it easy and made one with the CAS sketch this week. I used an image from "Gifts of Christmas" (SU!) and then toned down the paper and ink with a mix of Antique Linen and Tea Stain distress inks. The paper is Basic Grey's Wassail from a couple of years back (great DP!). And brads...who knew?!?
Positive note of the day: Actually got to write today. I feel like hiding in my office and not venturing out until my pile is whittled down somewhat! Good luck with that one!

Weekly Sketches - Week of September 12th

C Times 3!

I almost find it easier to scrap then to "card" now...how sad is that? I guess having all those photos ready to go makes it easier (and the colors of the photo dictate my paper choice!). One day, I will sit down and color a bunch!

Positive note of the day: Brad made another pretty deck out of cedar for our front. That will be much nicer to sit on then the concrete stoop!

A love of kraft and fresh tomatoes...

Love this different look for a kids' grad scrap page. More in keeping with something for an adult, I love the mix of embellies with kraft!

DP Used: Crate Paper Restoration

Positive note of the day: After many a summer where it got too cold before the harvest, we finally got a crop of tomatoes from our efforts. Think of me chomping down on BLTs tomorrow...the best way to eat fresh tomatoes!

Playing in Paradise Challenge #33 - Tag Time!

A crafty post...who knew? For today's Playing in Paradise challenge, Angie asked us to create a tag. Loved getting into my stash again and pulling together a Christmas tag. I might just have to make some more (esp. since today is my Friday off...woo hoo!).

P.S. I digi-pieced for the first time in forevah. Wanna know how to do it? Look at my tutorial here.

Positive note of the day: Today Avery has her home visit from the school. At last look, she had five teachers, two psychologists, a speech pathologist, a physiotherapist, an occupation therapist and her home visit coordinator. Once they see her in her home environment, they are going to set her IPP (individualized program plan) so they can promote her learning and therapy. It's such a good school and program...more importantly, Ave has not had one whit about leaving the house by herself for four hours a day!
